Description

*** Northern Lights in the Rockies, Canada - October 14th, 2015 ***

It's been the first time I went out to see the Northern Lights and I was so lucky!
I always thought you had to go farther north to be able to see them until I came across a few photographs recently. They were shot at Peyto Lake in the Rocky Mountains, which is located on the Icefields Parkway. So I investigated a bit further and as I'm in the area at the moment on the first clear night I crossed my fingers, headed out and hoped for the best! And I was awed! It was a magical experience!

On a side note: The camera captured more than I could see with my own eyes. I saw the beams and later in the night some pulsating light but not so much the colours.
Also, in the beginning there wasn't as much going on as in this picture. Fortunately, there was someone else out there (thanks go to Jan from the Netherlands) who told me that the glow I could see on the horizon actually were the Northern Lights. I might have turned in early otherwise. Lucky me!

This shoot also happens to coincide with :iconcrphotography:'s weekly photography challenge, which this week has the theme "Shoot at night".
Please go and check it out or better yet: Participate!

Hi Claudia.  I promised I'd have a look when I got home.  Stunning.  Still haven't seen them :-(
